Biography

OLV Charities is a 501c3 organization that operates as the philanthropy and support services division of the Our Lady of Victory (OLV) organizations in Lackawanna, New York. OLV was established over 130 years ago by Father Nelson Baker (who is currently named Venerable and on the path to Sainthood), a Roman Catholic priest who built the Our Lady of Victory National Shrine & Basilica in the early 1920’s and developed a “City of Charity,” which today consists of one of Western New York’s most comprehensive charitable agencies for children and families in OLV Human Services. The OLV Basilica is a national treasure and international destination, with over 40,000 visitors passing through its doors annually. OLV Human Services cares for more than 4,500 children, teens, the developmentally disabled and families each year through a variety of programs, including: foster care and emergency foster care, residential treatment programs for youth; special education schools; community-based housing for the developmentally disabled; counseling and preventive services; and a community-based dental center serving individuals with disabilities who require adaptive dental care.
