St. Anselm Institute for Catholic Thought
Biography
The St. Anselm Institute for Catholic Thought is a faculty-led Catholic educational nonprofit founded in
2000 and registered in the Diocese of Richmond, VA. The Institute’s mission is to make the Catholic
intellectual tradition accessible and available to university students, faculty and others within and
beyond the University of Virginia community. The Institute hosts a popular public lecture series, a
variety of faculty-led reading groups and seminars, and a new set of noncredit Catholic Ideas
minicourses. All of our programs are free and open to all with an interest. The Institute does not receive
funding from the Diocese or the University of Virginia. Instead, our free Catholic educational programs
rely upon the good will of many and the annual charitable gifts of those who believe the “light of Christ”
in the Catholic intellectual tradition should shine bright to all within and around secular university
environments.
