Pacem in Terris, Ulster Project Delaware (Wilmington, DE)
Biography
Ulster Project Delaware seeks to promote reconciliation between Northern Irish Catholics and Protestants by fostering tolerance, understanding, and friendship among future leaders. The project brings a group of 18 teenagers between the ages of 14 to 16 and four adult leaders from Northern Ireland, half of whom are Catholic and half of whom are Protestant, to the Wilmington area during the month of July. They live with host families with teenagers of the same age and through a variety of activities, ranging from spiritual and group building to social, recreational, sightseeing, and service, barriers are broken down and bridges of trust are built. The leaders who accompany the group continue to do follow-up activities with the N.I. teens once they return home. Started in 1976 by Charles A. and Josephine R. Robinson, Ulster Project Delaware is now the oldest, continuously running Ulster Project in the United States.
